Attorneys for the artist Richard Prince asked a New York federal judge Tuesday to dismiss a copyright infringement suit based on photos he pulled from Instagram, arguing his “appropriation art” was transformative and therefore permissible fair use. DNF’s Tracy O. Appleton suggested the judge pare some of the damages in order to work toward an amicable solution.
